1. Overview
The National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore is pleased to announce the launch of the 3rd Call for Projects on ASPIRE 2A.
As NSCC is working to update the policies for resources allocation, please note that the allocation period for the 3rd Call will tentatively be postponed by 3 months, more details will be provided at a later date.

For Project Renewal:
- Projects from the 1st Call that are ending 30 June 2024 should apply for a renewal application if you wish to continue your project after 30 June 2024.
- The usage of the previously approved resources must be at least 50%.
- Projects that are approved for renewal will be extended to 1 September, or until the start of the next resource allocation period.
Clinic (optional):
This is an optional clinic session for users that require guidance on determining the types of resources required and calculating the actual resources to request for. Please note that this is a physical-only session.

2. Eligibility & Requirement

Valid NSCC Account:
- For NUS, NTU, A*STAR, SUTD, TCOMS, SMU, SIT, SP, TP and RP users – Account creation via self-help portal at https://user.nscc.sg.
- For all other users – Account request via https://new.nscc.sg.

Project Applicant:
- For Research – The Project Applicant should be the Principal Investigator (PI) or the supervisor of the project.
- For Education – The applicant should be the supervisor or lecturer of the project. The Project Applicant is responsible for the application and management of the project resources.
- If required, the PI may authorise a team member to submit the application on their behalf. The authorisation can be in the form of an email acknowledgement to be sent to [email protected].

Deliverables:
- Please take note that all approved projects must submit a deliverables report to NSCC at the end of their project cycle.

Minimum Resource Requirement
- Resources requested should be at least 50,000 Service Units (SU)^.
^Please fully utilise the resources in your personal account if you have not done so.
3. Notification of Award
- Details of the application result will be sent to the Project Applicant via email.
- Please refer to the Introductory Workshop Handbook for more information.
4. Policy Updates
- Submit an application via the NSCC Projects Portal (https://projects.nscc.sg/)
- Please note there will be further changes to the policy from September 2024 onwards.

General – comprise of all PhD projects, non-stakeholder IHL (SIT, SMU, SIT, polytechnics) projects, and individual projects. |
3 | New Adjustment Policy | 1. Project applicants can request for adjustment of resources allocated after project approval. 2. Adjustment requests must be made within the first 4 months, before the end of each 6-month period. a. E.g., For the allocation cycle 1 July to 30 June, the 6-month periods will be Jul-Dec and Jan-Jun, hence users must request for adjustment before end-October and end-April. 3. Project applicants can request for additional resources if the project has depleted the allocated resources, subject to approval. 4. Project applicants can return unutilised resources. |
4 | Renewal Projects’ Past Utilisation | For renewal, past project usage less than 50% will be rejected. Do submit an adjustment request if you are unable to fully utilise your resources. |
5. Information and Instructions

6. Guideline for Application Form

7. Project Expiration
Projects that are not renewed will expire by the end of the 1-year project cycle. Renewal application should be submitted for project extending beyond a year.
- Project quota will be set to zero (0) hours and no jobs will be dispatched.
- All project data will remain in the system for 30 days.
- After 30 days, all project data will be archived.
- All archived data will be retained for 5 months from the date of archival.
- A charge of $0.022/GB will be imposed for retrieval of archived data.
- All data remaining in the system will be purged 6 months from the date of project expiry.
Please plan your resource utilisation wisely and use your allocated resources as early as possible to avoid encountering resource bottlenecks towards the end of the project cycle.
Example 1:
Expiration of Project Allocation from Jul’23 Cycle (Project Cycle 1 July 2023 – 30 June 2024)
- All resources granted in the previous project cycle will expire by 30 June 2024.
- On 1st July 2024, all project quota will be set to zero (0) hours and you will not be able to dispatch any jobs. All project data will remain in the system for one month.
- On 1st August 2024, all project data will be archived.
- Charges will be incurred for retrieval of archived data from 1st August 2024.
- All archived data will be retained until 31 December 2024.
- On 1 January 2025, all data will be purged.
Example 2:
Expiration of Project Allocation from Jan’24 Cycle (Project Cycle 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2024)
- All resources granted in the previous project cycle will expire by 31 December 2024.
- On 1st January 2025, all project quota will be set to zero (0) hours and you will not be able to dispatch any jobs. All project data will remain in the system for one month.
- On 1st February 2025, all project data will be archived.
- Charges will be incurred for retrieval of archived data from 1st February 2025.
- All archived data will be retained until 30 June 2025.
- On 1 July 2025, all data will be purged.
8. Acknowledgement
- The applicant will be notified of the project approval status before the start of the resource allocation period.
- Projects that have been granted resources are obliged to acknowledge NSCC in any published work. A sample of the text can be found in the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP); which details can be found below.
Citation: All academic journal or conference papers shall cite NSCC with the following:
“The computational work for this article was (fully/partially) performed on resources of the National Supercomputing Centre, Singapore (https://www.nscc.sg).”
- Users are required to update a brief report of deliverables achieved from utilising NSCC’s resources on the Projects Portal at the end of the project. For projects not submitted through the Projects Portal, submit your deliverables report through the Deliverables Report Submission Site.
